FIS Congress 2014

Today was the opening day of the the 49th International Ski FIS Congress in the city of Barcelona which will run from June 1st to the 6th, 2014.

Approximately 100 official meetings of the Council and the FIS Committees will be held during the event focusing on the development of the FIS disciplines and steering the direction of FIS with all its many facets.

The primary mission of the gathering will be to elect a new council of 16 members and to determine World Championship sites in the six FIS winter sport disciplines. The FIS will also select organizers for world championships in all of its disciplines.

Twenty-two candidates are vying for 16 Council positions with only the FIS President, Gian Franco Kasper, guaranteed a seat since he is running unopposed.

As part of the Congress week, the FIS Development Program held two special seminars: “After Sochi 2014 is before Pyeongchang 2018“ was the topic of the Leaders‘ Seminar which took place on Sunday, June 1st focusing on learning from developing ski nations’ experience from Sochi and guiding them through until the next Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
