FIS Telemark World Cup Opening 2013

FIS Telemark World Cup Opening 2013

The International Ski Federation (FIS) recently announced the seven venues which will host the 2013-2014 FIS Telemark World Cup. For the first time, racing will commence in November rather than in the New Year. Starting in the Austrian resort of Hintertux, the World Cup will then move over the border and into France where Montgenèvre will hold the second set of races followed by Les Contamines Montjoie, where Born Skier will be reporting live and promoting this awesome sport as well as supporting this its ambassadors: Amélie Reymond of Switzerland, Johanna Holzmann of Germany, Jasmin Taylor of Great Britain and Shigeta Hisada of Japan.

The Hintertux Glacier will welcome the world’s top Telemark skiers for the inaugural FIS World Cup event of the season from November 28 to December 01, 2013. Competitive Telemark Skiing is the newest addition to the FIS World Cup schedule. Some 120 of the fastest Telemark skiers in the world, coming from 14 different countries, will compete in this spectacular discipline in the Heart of the Alps.

Telemark is in fact the original style of skiing and true to its Nordic routes; Telemark races include a gate section, a Nordic jump, and a skate skiing section. Telemark races are without a doubt a serious test of overall athletic strength and ability.

Telemark races are exciting to watch from the sidelines as racers fly off the jump, rip into the 360, and give it all in the skating section! And, the entertainment does not end with the races! The event will be packed with fun activities, starting with the festive opening ceremony in Tux-Lanersbach on Thursday, November 28, 2013. You will also be able to try telemark within workshops and clinics. See you there!
