how to wax your skis or snowboards

Ready to hit the slopes? You are ready, the snow is there but what about your equipment? Get your equipment ready and waxed at a pro-shop near you or at your favourite resort, on your own or if you are lucky, Playboy style as shown in the video below!

Waxing on a regular basis not only makes you go faster, it makes turning and handling smoother and more predictable and protects your bases from abrasion. Prepare the skis by retracting the ski brake and hooking them with a strong robber band; snowboards usually do not have brakes. Flip the ski base-up and hold the ski securely in place. Using a clean rag, moistened with a little alcohol, wipe off any dust or debris. Allow to dry, about 20 minutes. Then apply wax with iron on low temperature; hold a chunk of wax against the base of the iron and let it drip onto the ski as it melts and then place the iron on the ski base and spread the wax over the entire base. Wait for the ski to cool and dry completely. Don’t cool the ski outside because that will cause the wax to get pushed back up out of the pores of the ski.

Using a plastic scraper, scrape the base from tip to tail, removing excess wax overlapping. You can also brush the ski base to bring out the structure or texture of the base, which increases your speed. Then go to the slope and enjoy your day!
