Ski Mountaineering World Cup in Verbier

Kilian Jornet of Spain and Laetitia Roux of France both won their individual World Cup races in Ski Mountaineering over the weekend in Verbier, Switzerland.

The race was beautiful and Kilian Jornet dominated this World Cup event crossing the summit with 1:20 ahead of all other competitors, before the downhill were he managed to win with 0.30 ahead of his pursuer. Second was Robert Antonioli (Italy) and third William Good Mardion (France).  In the ladies competition, the victory went to Laetitia Roux of France finishing in a total time of 1 hour 52 minutes and 43 seconds. Maude Mathys of Switzerland finished second and Axelle Mollaret of France third.

The start was early… at 9:00 am, with the Senior and Espoir categories comprised of 4 ascents and descents for an overall altitude gain of 1,700 meters (5,577 feet) over 13.7 kilometres (8.5 miles). The Junior male category battled along 1580 meters (5,183 feet) overall altitude gain, while their counterparts tackled 1135 meters (3,723 feet).
