Skiing & Snowboarding in Egypt?

Sun, blue sky, sand, camels and pyramids; this is what tourists would expect to see in Egypt. However, Egypt’s first indoor ski resorts that should have been completed by the end of 2014 will take a few more years to develop due to the country’s recent political troubles forcing large development projects to be postponed or cancelled.

But Ski Egypt is not a new experience for those who have visited Ski Dubai. The Egypt offering will share similar traits to Dubai’s indoor ski resort – and will also share the same developer, Majid Al Futtaim, the man behind Ski Dubai and some of the city’s biggest shopping malls.

Although the design has not yet been finalized, it will not be as large as the 400-meter slope in Dubai, nor would it have a black run. The Mall of Egypt will cover a total area of 160,000 square metres and is scheduled to contain 350 shops when completed. In addition to its main indoor ski slope attraction facility, the mall will contain a 17-screen cinema complex, food court and other leisure amenities.

Even though current political uncertainties may have implications on project deliveries, significant opportunities for further retail development or expansion remain.
