The 30th edition of the Patrouille des Glaciers was held in excellent conditions. Following a delay by a day due to bad weather, blue sunny sky appeared and the weather remained relatively clear and cool, which has an excellent course for the competitors.
1605 patrollers took the start from Zermatt. 535 three-team patrols, military and civilian, traveled a distance of about 53 kilometers with a 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) rise. The 2715 patrol CS Esercito ITA Lenzi / Eydallin / Boscacci, from Italy had the best time of the big race in a total time of 6 hours 1 minute and 50 seconds. The favorites team from Switzerland, Troillet / Anthamatten / Ecoeur unfortunately had to abandon due to the injury of Florent Troillet. In the women’s competition, the best patrol team was Aprotec 2722 composed of Ponte Combe / Roux / Mathys who beat the record set in 2010.
399 patrols departed from Arolla early in the morning towards Verbier. The “small” race of the Patrouille des Glaciers has a distance of about 26 kilometers (16,1 miles) and 2,000 meters (6561 feet) of a climb. The best time this year was completed by the 3504 patrol Corthay / Bonnet / Spicher, in 2 hours 58 minutes and 33 seconds.
