Norway wins the women’s 4 X 5 km relay in Lillehammer.
Under a heavy snowfall, the Norwegian team won the women’s 4 x 5 km relay in Lillehammer, Norway in a total time of 58:38:9 ahead of Finland taking the second place with +1:13:2 and the United States in third with +1:36:5. The Norwegian team of Heidi Weng, Therese Johaug, Kristin Størmer Steira and Marit Bjørgen skied to victory with a comfortable lead on the other teams. Johaug opened up the lead on her classic leg and the gap was held on both free technique legs with Bjørgen with enough time to wave to the home crowd coming down the finish.
Russia stuns with men’s relay victory
In the men’s 4 x 7.5 km relay the Russian I team upset the home crowd out sprinting Norway II and Norway I to win in Lillehammer. As we are getting closer to the Sochi Olympics, team Russia I has demonstrated its readiness. The race was exciting as everyone thought it could be a Norwegian podium with three teams in the lead but Maxim Vylegzhanin of Russia made a big acceleration and held his lead to the finish. Chasing behind him was Finn Haagen Krogh of Norway II and Petter Northug Jr. of Norway I, but none could close the gap. Team Russia I won with a total time of 1:19:04.7 ahead of two Norwegian teams, Norway II in second place with +1.6 and Norway I in third position with only +1.8 from the leader and +0.2 from second spot!…
